Accommodation at university is an essential part of the student experience, offering not only a place to live but also a chance to connect with peers or other members of the community. There are a wide range of housing options each catering to different needs and preferences. Our College Services team can connect you with a range of accommodation providers to suit your needs.

Accommodation options include:

  • University-managed student accommodation

  • Purpose-built student accommodation

  • Homestay

  • Private rentals

1. University-managed student accommodation

The Village is operated by Adelaide University and is an apartment complex located in the city centre near China Town and the Adelaide Central Markets. It’s a 10-minute bus ride or a 25-minute walk away from the university’s city campus. It’s exclusive to students with on-site staff available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with a free shuttle service to and from the campus. You have the option of living alone or sharing an apartment with other students. There are common indoor and outdoor areas for socialising and preparing food.

2. Purpose-built student accommodation

Living in student accommodation is a great way to be part of a student community. Providers offer a range of fully furnished rooms, utilities, Wi-Fi connection and shared facilities (e.g. kitchen and dining area, lounge room) and staff are available for support. Student accommodation options managed by our preferred providers are Scape at University of Adelaide and Yugo Adelaide City. For a list of other approved accommodation providers with options in and around the city, check out Study Adelaide.

Scape

Scape is located across the road from Adelaide University’s city campus and is near the main shopping district, called Rundle Mall, with easy access to many cafes and restaurants. It offers a range of fully furnished rooms in a convenient location with staff onsite 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Scape also has two other locations at Adelaide Central and Waymouth. All three locations are close to public transport, shops and amenities and offer facilities such as a communal kitchen, gym, laundry room and a computer hub.

Yugo Adelaide City

Yugo Adelaide City is a residence with panoramic views and is conveniently located across the road from Adelaide University’s city campus and a 5-minute walk to our College. You can choose from a range of room types from single ensuite rooms to studios and shared apartments. Their shared facilities include a gym, media and cinema rooms, laundry facilities and a BBQ terrace.

3. Homestay

Homestay is a good option if you would like to live with a local family and need extra support. While you’re staying with your homestay family in their home, they will take care of you and make you feel comfortable. It’s also a great opportunity to practise your English language skills outside the classroom.

Most homestays are located within 45 minutes from the College and are on a direct bus, train or tram line. Our College uses the Australian Homestay Network (AHN) to manage all homestay placements. Find out how to apply and their fees.

If you are 18 years of age or older, you are required to stay with your homestay family for at least 4 weeks. If you are under 18, you will need to stay in your homestay for a minimum of 6 months or until you are 18 years old, whichever is the earlier date. All students requesting homestay are required to pay an accommodation placement fee.

4. Private rentals

Private rentals are residential properties available to rent, or individual bedrooms in houses offered as share accommodation. This option provides flexibility and independence, allowing you to choose a living arrangement that suits your lifestyle.

Under-18 accommodation options

Our College staff take particular care of students under the age of 18. Before you arrive, we will help you arrange suitable accommodation either with a local homestay family or an apartment at our approved student residences.

Our approved airport pick-up service will meet you upon arrival and transfer you to your new home. If the College is your legal guardian, you will have a Student Advocate appointed to support and oversee your welfare. This service is provided by the International Student Alliance (ISA) as part of our independent welfare monitoring program. The ISA Student Advocates are professional, multilingual advocates who will ensure you are properly cared for and will provide your parents or guardian with regular updates.

You will meet with your Student Advocate regularly either in person, phone or online meetings to check that you are managing well in your new environment.
