These tables show the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores required for our English for Academic Purposes program and the amount of time most students take to reach the required scores.

All applications will be assessed on an individual basis. For Pre-Master’s Program, English language requirements will depend on the master’s program and academic qualifications. For all other programs, other entry criteria may apply.

Compulsory Courses

Academic English A - PM501EAP

The subject is aimed at providing students from a range of educational backgrounds, cultures and language settings with the academic language skills necessary to successfully complete their postgraduate programs. It equips students whose first language is not English with the necessary skills to successfully engage in group work, become more effective communicators when collaborating with others and gain confidence in building productive relationships to achieve their learning outcomes.


Critical Thinking Skills - PM502ACS

This subject equips students with the critical and analytical thinking skills essential for postgraduate study. Students develop the ability to engage critically with academic reading material, examining and evaluating others' arguments. The subject emphasises distinguishing between critical analysis and mere description and enables students to formulate and present their own arguments effectively. Through interactive tutorials and academic debates, students gain confidence in applying critical thinking strategies to analyse diverse viewpoints, challenge opposing views, and clearly articulate their own perspectives. Regular reflective journal tasks encourage self-evaluation, foster independent thinking, and build critical reasoning skills that are crucial for academic success.

  

Quantitative Skills -  PM504ACS

This subject introduces key quantitative skills essential for postgraduate studies, focusing on both mathematics and statistics. It covers fundamental principles in algebra, functions, geometry, calculus, and matrices and explores their practical applications. The statistics component includes sampling methods, data representation, measures of central tendency and dispersion, distributions, correlation, and regression. The course aims to equip students with the quantitative skills needed for advanced study and professional practice in various sectors.


Study and Research Skills -  PM505ACS

This subject prepares students for postgraduate study by developing essential research and study skills. Students will learn to define research problems, formulate research questions, and design feasible research projects. Emphasis will be placed on research planning, time management, and the application of appropriate research methods. The course also focuses on effective communication and collaboration within group work to build productive relationships. Students will enhance their ability to analyse, evaluate, and report on research both orally and in writing, adhering to academic integrity. By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the skills needed to excel in their academic pursuits and maximise their success in a postgraduate environment.


Intercultural Studies - PM503SOC

This subject examines culture and its significance by exploring cultural diversity and its value in contemporary societies. It aims to develop students' ability to interact and communicate effectively in both Australian and global contexts. Students will gain an understanding of their own cultural backgrounds while developing empathy for others. The course emphasises reflecting on cultural identity, comparing customs and traditions, and appreciating diverse environments. By the end of the course, students will possess the knowledge and intercultural communication skills needed to engage respectfully and effectively with people from various cultural backgrounds in personal and professional settings.

Elective Courses

Additional compulsory courses apply for students in their second semester.   


Students in their second semester will also complete four additional masters level courses specific to their chosen masters degree.
